What is CTE?

Centre for Technical Education (CTE) is the largest technical department on campus. Various technical courses that are not included extensively in BITS curriculum are offered and taught by seniors under CTE.

How are courses offered in CTE different than offered in BITS curriculum?

CTE courses provided a more hands-on experience and introductory theory related to various essential paradigms that are remain unexplored in the first few semesters of BITS curriculum. CTE course performance won't affect CGPA and are not taught by professors but are extracurricular activities to improve one's technical knowledge.

Will I get certified on completion of a CTE course?

Yes. Those who complete a course will get Certificate of Completion. Meritious students will also get a different Certificate of Merit.

What would be the evaluative components of a CTE course?

Evaluative components vary from course to course. It can include from quizzes to assignments, midsems and end projects/ compre. Please refer the respective course handout for more details.

Is their any scholarship for CTE courses?

Meritious students will get their course fees reimbursed at the end of the semester.

Till when can I deregister from a course ? How do I deregister myself from a course?

You can deregister from a course within the first 3 lectures of that course. In order to deregister from a course contact CTE MEMBERS ONLY. DO NOT CONTACT RESPECTIVE COURSE INSTRUCTORS FOR DEREGISTRATION PURPOSES.

Is CTE a non-profit organisation?

Yes, CTE is a non-profit organisation. Money collected through courses is used to pay the instructors as well as fund student projects, rest is kept as reserves for future. All of the recent finance transaction details have been made public.

Who is the faculty co-ordinator of CTE?

Prof. Bharat Deshpande of CSIS department is the faculty co-ordinator of CTE.

How do I apply as Instructor for a CTE course?

Contact CTE members, apply along with your résumé and preferably with a course handout of the course you wish to conduct. Applications will be screened by faculty as well as CTE co-ordinators.

Will I get paid as a CTE course instructor?

Yes.

What is the difference between mentor and instructor?

Instructors will be conducting the teaching aspect the course whereas mentors will assist the instructors by solving students' doubts and evaluate assignments.

What are the fees of a CTE course?

CTE courses cost Rs.1200/-.Sometimes a course can be free. Note that a free course can charge for supplementary materials required for project completion.
